It is week 14 of 18 in training and heading down the home stretch to taper. This Saturday the Novices run long at 19-miles and the Intermediates are cut-back to 12-miles. Your Coach is in cut-back mode, so I will run the 6-out and back and come back and get my bike to find you Novices on the back-side of going long!
19-miles means 9.5 miles out and back. There are two approaches to meeting this goal. One is to just run all out N and onto the Levee Trail to the 9-mile mark and turn it back, then make up the 1-mile, for example when getting back to Ave B shelter then run S to the 4-mile mark, turn it back and run to the 4.5 mark just before the Ave B shelter and turn it back S and you made up your mile. You can do this at any point on the course on the way back where you know the marks are painted on the trail.
The other option is to run to Grand Blvd in Highland which is about 8.43-miles out and turn W on Grand on the S-side sidewalk and run to the bike trail a bit further W and then under the Indy Blvd overpass, then into Wicker Park, following the road N, then turning W around the bend and going all the way till it turns back S, then follow it till you hit the 9.5-mile mark, designated as "9.5-A" (A for alternate route). Then turn it back and at Cline you got 19-miles done. It's all contingent on that deconstruction of Indy overpass doesn't close out our passage into Wicker Park.
Coach will make sure to have fluid aid at that bench at the little tot-lot park just before you approach Grand Blvd, and I will have aid station at 41st Ave shelter. The other standard stations should be there, but have yet to post to the assistant coaches/mentors on those duties.
Too early to post on definitive Wx conditions, but early forecasts suggest some possibility of rain, but at least no hot! Will follow-up on that a bit later as well as with any inspiration, if I can find it - LOL!
Coach says - just train - just do it - it all comes to fruition!
peace
