This upcoming Saturday Novices cub-back to 14-miles. Intermediates are due for their last 20-miler and maybe some run-walkers go 18-20 miles. I know there may be some Intermediates (including myself) doing their 20-miler Sunday at CARA Ready-2-Run 20. Just not clear at this point exactly how many individuals intend to run 20-miles this Saturday.
I am making an executive decision to keep the aid stations more concise, so any of you intending to head out 10-miles need to pay close attention to this post. I will be putting fluids out at both 45th and 41st shelters. The 41st shelter will be the last "official" marathon training aid station. That last shelter station is ca 6.85 miles out.
If you factor in the water fountain at Lincoln Ave, which is at 7.5-miles out, one carrying bottles or other hydration belts or camel-backs could conceivably run as far as the 9-mile mark on the levee trail, or even to the 10.66-mile turn-around point in Wicker Park, but it would be advised to carry an extra gel or electrolyte tabs with you to add to go with your water.
The other option is to just run-out to 7.5 or 8.o mile marks, then turn it back and make-up 4 or 5 miles by re-running prior sections between official shelter stations. For example, it is ca 0.75-miles between Ave B and Colfax shelters, so one could make up 1.5-miles simply by running to Colfax and turning back and running to Ave B, then back again to Colfax. This is the preferred strategy your Coach recommends if any of you are going 20 this Saturday.
Email me if you have any questions.
