Week 13 Inspiration

Week 13 is where the LR training starts getting tough, the Intermediates tackle their first 20-miler, and the novices trailing a bit behind, but reaching "wall" distance at 18-miles. I think some inspiration to help keep you going is warranted.

Last Sunday bought a Shel Silverstein book (Falling Up) for 50-cents at garage sale in the neighborhood. It's got goofy sketch drawings and poems for kids. I am drawing on a few of these poems for your inspiration, on the basis that if kids can understand it, well, I shouldn't have to explain much for you. So, here goes:

Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda

All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
Layin' in the sun,
Talkin' 'bout the things
They woulda-coulda-shoulda done...
But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas
All ran away and hid
From one little Did.

(Coaches comment - Only an injury exempts you from above; No excuses; Just do it - Get er done!)

The Voice

There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
"I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong."
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
Or wise man can decide
What's right for you - just listen to
The voice that speaks inside.

(Coaches comment - I can cite to you science, physiology of exercise, principles of training, tell you of my own experiences, but eventually you have to find your inner strength and self that gives you the confidence of knowing what to do and when to do it. You're almost there!)

Destitutus ventis, remos adhibe
If the wind will not serve,
take to the oars - Latin Proverb

(Coaches comment - Something isn't working well, find another means to get to your destination.)

Hope this is of some use to you. Resorting to shorter, simpler and non-technical ways to make my points, as "falling-up" on a kids book of poems for inspiration - ROFL! The time has come to "Dig-In" and "Get Dirty" and "Get er Done" because when you train with this Coach you commit to being a "Doer" soon to be a "Did-er" and not a "Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda."
