By now you should have seen the message from Misty about the Turtle 10 this Monday, Labor Day, September 5th starting at 8am at Hickory Creek Junction in Frankfort/New Lenox area off of Route 30 or Lincoln Highway.
The original flyer indicated $5 fee for non-club-members, or it was waived to anyone who joined the club on-the-spot. Members only pay $1, so I conferred with club officials and they responded any of you from the Fleet-Feet Marathon Training Program could run it for the member fee of $1. I will qualify it that if any of you trainees come out, you pay nothing, and your coach covers that fee. You get some goodies they give away as well as all the pancakes you want to feast on afterwards.
I do understand we have mega long-run this Saturday and that is our priority. But we have Sunday to recover, then should be in amenable position to run Turtle 10. The beauty of it is you don't have to "race" it but just do the distance. The beauty of it is if you don't feel amenable to covering 10-miles, then you simply run the North out-and-back(i.e. ONB) and get back to point of beginning and end your run at 5.6-mi, or if feeling good, continue on to the South ONB and tally 10-miles. The choice is yours based on how you feel!
Where can you run a 10-mile race on a soon-to-be certified USATF race course for $1 that you don't have to pay! The N-ONB has some nice, challenging, hilly terrain that only makes one a better marathoner. If you got the gusto to do the full race to the S-ONB, then that is mostly level and fast, except for the grade up to the overpass over Rte 30 span-bridge crossing, the ascent from the North heading South, seemingly far tougher than the return stroke, and when you come down that bridge on the last stretch back, you can fly like the speed of light! I know, I measured this course for USTAF certification and I ran all of its miles.
If you can make it, by all means take advantage of this opportunity. You won't regret it.
peace,
